The opening of the fifth edition of the Al
Jazeera Balkans Documentary Film Festival (AJB DOC) will take place tonight in
Sarajevo with the screening of the film "Girl Gang" by Susanna
Regina Meures, which brings us the story of the dark side of the lives of young
influencers.
The award-winning German-Swiss director
takes us to the outskirts of Berlin, bringing us closer to the life of a 14-year-old
influencer Leonie, who has millions of followers on social networks and is
showered with products by companies. When her parents recognize the enormous
economic potential of Leonie's online activities, they quickly take on the role
of her managers. They want Leonie's life to be better than theirs. However,
dictated by brands and the pressure to produce content, her life slowly turns
into a prison.
The film will be shown at 20:30 in the Kovači Multimedia Center, and in case of rain, the screening will be moved to the Bosnian Cultural Center/Bosanski kulturni centar (BKC).
The second film that will also be screened
tonight is Srđan Keča's "Museum of the Revolution", which will open
the out-of-competition program of Last Minute Cinema.
This award-winning film tells the story of the abandoned project of the architect Vjenceslav Richter, who had a vision to build a museum that would "safeguard the truth about us". Friendship develops between a seven-year-old girl and an old woman within the remnants of this utopian project. When the city begins erasing all traces of the Museum of the Revolution, the girl will leave behind all the innocent games and stories told by the fire.
The screening of the film will take place at Cineplexx at 21:00.
Top-Quality Films
The fifth AJB DOC brings fans 25
top-quality documentaries on current social issues.
What connects all the films that will be
shown in the four selections - Competition, AJB Screening, Last Minute Cinema
and Smart DOC - are peace and faith in a better tomorrow, therefore the main theme
of this year's edition of the festival is the white dove, a universal symbol of
peace, whose graphic representation of the takeoff and upward movement
symbolically forms the number five.
Also, from September 10 to September 12, in
cooperation with the Al Jazeera Media Institute, video journalist Faris Bajrić will
hold the training session "Production of Documentary Films with a Smartphone".
As part of the fifth edition of the AJB DOC Film Festival, under the auspices of the Info Center of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, on September 12, a masterclass "The Importance of Telling Stories" will be held by Galeb Nikačević, journalist, host and creator of the regionally popular Agelast podcast. Invitation for this event can be collected free of charge at Cineplexx.
This year's edition of AJB DOC is held
under the auspices of BH Telecom, and the training will be held in partnership
with Samsung.
